Bernardeschi: Improved performance from Italy

Italy forward Federico Bernardeschi saw signs of progress from the Azzurri during their 1-1 draw with Ukraine, though he knows they must improve their finishing.

The Juventus man opened the scoring, though Ruslan Malinovskyi’s equalizer means Italy have registered just one win from six matches since Roberto Mancini took over.

Bernardeschi believes that despite the Azzurri’s struggles, they are making progress, with Wednesday’s performance proof they are on the right path.

“It’s a shame we didn’t win a match like this as we deserved a result,” he told Rai Sport. “We created six or seven clear chances.

“It’s a shame because I saw a great Italy that played well, even though we weren’t able to win.

“Attacking trident? We got on well, played some football and enjoyed ourselves. We are just lacking some finishing, so we must improve.

“[Andriy] Pyatov made three or four great saves in the first half, but we are here to win every match.

“I saw a vastly improved Italy compared to previous outings.”

Italy’s next match pits them against Poland at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow on Sunday.
