Eintracht Frankfurt's Marco Fabian out for two months

Eintracht Frankfurt[1] midfielder Marco Fabian[2] will miss the start of the 2017/18 Bundesliga season and is expected to be sidelined for two months due to a back injury.

Although the Mexico international was able to take part in two sessions at the club’s recent training camp in the Italian town of Gais, a persistent complaint in his lower back has forced him to rest and undergo a conservative course of treatment with a specialist.

“We really regret Marco’s absence and hope he can return soon,” said Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic. “We’ll obviously support him as best we can during his treatment in order to help him make a swift recovery.”

Following a difficult start upon arriving at the Eagles in January 2016, Fabian has blossomed into a key player at the club, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 35 Bundesliga outings.

He suffered back trouble at the start of 2017 but was fit again from Matchday 24 onwards, and was able to represent Mexico at the Confederations Cup in Russia over the summer. The 28-year-old is the third member of coach Niko Kovac’s side to miss the season start, with Alex Meier[3] (ankle) and Omar Mascarell[4] (Achilles) also in the treatment room.
